The first BlackBerry flip-phone from RIM has apparently made an appearance at the Future Shop! Even before the handset’s official announcement on Rogers’ network, it seems that Future Shop is offering the BlackBerry 8220 Pearl clamshell at an expected $50 price-point. Of course, a 3 year service contract with Rogers is required, and you’ll have to get off your duff and pick up the handset in a brick-and-mortar store.

Following on their product-listing fiasco with the HTC Touch Pro, Future Shop is likely going to have to take down their BlackBerry 8220 Pearl listing post haste.

On a positive note, the BlackBerry 8220 Pearl is probably going to be released on Rogers in the near term.

Good ol CrackBerry Kevin published a great post this evening. He decided to sit down and speculate about what could be in the BlackBerry world in 2009. It’s an interesting read. When you consider it is coming from probably one of the most connected if not THE most connected guy on the BlackBerry scene… Makes you think that most of the speculation will come true.

Details and highlights of the speculation after the jump!

Speculated for 2009

Bold ‘Touch’ - Expect the Bold to get a refresh, with a touchscreen added on and perhaps an thinner, more streamlined design. Also look for beefed up internals. A better camera, more RAM and more.

Curve ‘Touch’ or Curve ‘3G’ or a combination of the two - The biggest problem most folks have with the Curve 8900 is that it lacks 3G… and don’t be surprised if a touchscreen is thrown in there for good measure. RIM is embracing touch technology so anything is possible.

Storm ‘HD’ - With the HTC Touch HD and much speculation over the iPhone HD for the coming year, no doubt the Storm ‘HD’ would be a logical update for the Storm. Look for it to feature an HD display, and beefed up internals that will make any true addict foam at the mouth.

A New 3G Touchscreen - Vodafone/Verizon have locked up rights on the Storm (with the exception of them letting Bell and Telus in). With that in mind, look for RIM to get going on a new touchscreen for AT&T, Rogers, and other carriers to get their hands on.

A New Candy Bar Pearl - It would only make sense for the Pearl to get a revamp. While the Pearl Flip is great, it doesn’t offer the specs many were hoping to see. Look for the pearl to go for a bigger display, an improved trackball, slimmer styling and more power from within.

Nope, it’s not your eyes. What you’re seeing is IntoMobile’s new design. The IntoMobile team has been toiling away behind the scenes to bring you a refreshed look, and it’s a bang-up job, if we do say so ourselves.

Take a gander at our new navigation structure and you’ll notice that there are some new categories to check out. Rumors are important because they can give us an idea of what kind of future the mobile world has in store for us. When it comes time to pull the trigger and buy yourself a new mobile toy, hardware reviews can really come in handy. A rundown of the hottest hardware on market always makes for good reading, and it’s nice to keep abreast of the latest new mobile gadgets. As such, you can find all the “Latest News,” “Rumors,” “New Hardware,” “Hottest Hardware,” and “Reviews” categories under “All News.”

IntoMobile’s fledgling podcast, The Signal, is now listed under “Sections” - right next to dedicated sections for photo galleries, videos, and live event coverage. Why dontcha give the new navigation menu a spin? Try not to let the new IntoMobile logo distract you too much…

Oh, and rest assured that we’re working to bring our readers even more functionality in the near future. So stay tuned! (And, feel free to let us know how much you like the new design. It makes our ego feel good.)

The vendor will be called INQ Mobile (check out their holding website here), and Hutchison is the parent company - so you can expect a seriously competent “connected” device (or devices!) from them…

On the back of the success with 3’s Skyephone (3 obviously being another subsidiary of Hutchison), you can expect that the “social” connectively will be in the form of integrated apps like Facebook, Instant Messengers, and VoIP (probably Skype).

Apparently, according to Reuters, the first HSPA phone will be coming in the UK and Australia for year-end, and then onwards to other operators next year. It is claimed there are four more phones coming next year with a sub-$200 price-tag. For those interested, Flextronics and Foxconn will be an device production duties.

This should be a cracker! Knowing 3’s marketing, expect something explosive when it does go on sale!

Episode 4 of The Signal is now ready!

This week we pore over Android’s shifty terms of service, rumours of a new BlackBerry Storm/Bold hybrid, and delays on the HTC Touch Pro. We also act all unimpressed with the Prada II, as if we didn’t secretly yearn for it as the pinnacle of fashion status - what? Being blasé is just the beginning of being cool. There’s a lot on touchscreens, including the Krave’s funky transparent screen, if that’s your thing (we think it might be ours if it wasn’t recycled from four years ago). If you’ve been waiting for iTunes, our application went through, and you can now subscribe to us for to-your-doorstep, weekly mobile news delivery.

What are you waiting for? The week’s news and download links are behind the jump!
Music by Krazy Baldhed.

Rubberduck Media Lab, a leading provider of white label mobile TV services, has now launched a comprehensive mobile TV service in Estonia for Tele2 … The users will have access to local as well as international video content such as Estonian news from ERR and Kanal2 and entertainment from Lastekas, MTV and more. The majority of the content will be free to use provided that the users will have a data subscription package. The service will be available both in Estonian and in Russian.

It’s not specified what type of Mobile TV we are talking about, but I am thinking it’s Unicast 3G - which is having a bit of a resurgence of late. With those funky HSPA networks now becoming more and more common, the likelihood of high-quality streamed TV is improving day by day…

Those of you who prefer to have their USB ports free like all the time (or have their USB ports reserved for some other things) may opt for ExpressCard or PCMCIA-based 3G modems. However, since all the latest 3G modems are either USB or ExpressCard based, users with older laptops that only support PCMCIA cards are left out. Novatel knows that, hence their latest EX720 EV-DO ExpressCard comes with PCMCIA adapter. Apparently this adapter alone would run you $50, so it’s a good deal, especially when you consider the Sprint Novatel EX720 EV-DO ExpressCard modem costs $70 after rebate.

We at IntoMobile keep prefering USB modems. It’s way more convenient…

Philips E100 is everything but an impressive device. We’ve seen tons of handsets like this — a simple phone with built-in music player is a mass-market formula. However, I must admit I like the overall simplicity and design of the E100. It looks just right for those who’re switching from low-end MP3 players and even lower-end mobile phones.

Specs wise, there’s a 1.8-inch 160×128 pixels screen, GSM/GPRS support, FM radio, 2 MB of internal memory that is further expandable with microSD memory cards. And that’s about it - we told ya’ it’s a cheap phone, right? It will be sold in some parts of Asia for about $60. I doubt we’ll see it in Europe or North America, though you never know…

We can’t help but rejoice on T-Mobile USA’s news of new areas where users can finally use 3G. After “going 3G” in Sacramento, California this week, the Deutsche Telekom owned mobile operator wowed to speed-up its network in Memphis, Tennessee and Tampa, Florida during next week. Afterwards, Washington D.C. is slated to get some 3G love in late November.

We keep watching T-Mobile’s moves and look forward to see their 3G network expanding across the States… Full release follows after the jump.

PRESS RELEASE - T-Mobile USA, Inc. continues to aggressively expand its third-generation (3G) wireless broadband service, announcing today that the company will launch 3G service in and around the Washington, D.C., area in late November. At that time, the number of locations with T-Mobile’s 3G coverage will amount to more than 120 major cities across the top population centers nationwide.

This week, T-Mobile 3G coverage launched in the Sacramento, Calif., area bringing the number of major cities currently served with 3G coverage to 92. Next week, communities in and around Memphis, Tenn., and Tampa, Fla., will be the latest to reap the benefits of wireless broadband service from T-Mobile.

“We’re excited about the broad scale and reach of our 3G footprint in major cities across the nation, already accessible by tens of millions of consumers. And today, where the majority of our customers use data services, our 3G network is there for them,” said Neville Ray, senior vice president of Engineering and Operations, T-Mobile USA. “Our 3G footprint will continue to expand, and we look forward to continuing to deliver the rich experiences a 3G network can bring to T-Mobile customers.”

T-Mobile’s Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS)/High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) data network supports multiple 3G-capable phones available from T-Mobile, including the HSDPA-enabled T-Mobile G1 with Google, coming to select T-Mobile retail stores and available online on Oct. 22. The network can deliver download speeds of up to 1 Mbps; the faster speeds allow T-Mobile customers with 3G-capable handsets to take full advantage of new and emerging applications, such as the wide array of unique services accessible on the T-Mobile G1.

To view T-Mobile’s current 3G coverage including a complete list of major cities where 3G coverage is available, please go to the company’s Personal Coverage Check online at http://www.t-mobile.com/coverage.
